Rancho Del Lago - Chris Henslee
Chris Henslee is a graduate from Texas Tech University with degrees in Biology and Spanish and UT San Antonio School of Medicine.  He is now in a residency program in anesthesiology. Chris is an accomplished rider using English, Western or Peruvian tack (or no tack at all, for that matter). While in high school, he would jump on our ex race horse and ride her from the front gate to the house using leg, voice and any stick he could find, for cues. In his first year of competing on Peruvian horses he achieved several noteworthy wins.

*High Point Novice 1996 Sooner State, Oklahoma City.
*First of 10 Bareback Equitation 1996 Southwest Show, Ft. Worth.
*Second of 8 Novice Gait, 1996 Sooner State.
*Second of 10 Champagne, 1996 Southwest and Sooner State.

Chris spent the summers of 1996 and 97 in Peru and Mexico, improving both his Spanish and his horsemanship. Our thanks to Sr. Alonso LLoso (breeder of Peruvian National Champion stallion, Ron Anejo); Sr. Felipe Thorndike (well known breeder and show judge) and Sr. Ernesto Roca (breeder of Peruvian and US National Champion stallion, Norte y Sur) for their gracious hospitality. Ernesto Jr. got him into the bull ring where Chris was allowed to demonstrate his bull fighting (and survival) skills against a yearling bull! Fortunately, for Mom and Dad, the pictures arrived after he was safely home.  More recently, he has visited Spain, including a run with the bulls in Pamplona.

He is the son of Walter and Judy Henslee of Rancho Del Lago. He has a keen eye for good horses and has become an accomplished trainer, instructor, clinician and exhibitor in recent years. In the fall of 2001 he opened the evening performance of the Peruvian National show with a demonstration of natural horsemanship on our Andalusian stallion, Magico 8.  In 2002 he was the opening act for the evening show of the Texas Equestrian Trail Riders Association Expo riding Magico with no tack.
